VA Dept of Corrections Seeks to Put Probation Office in Southport
GSBA Board Demands Public Hearing!
Will Felons Be Coming to Southport?
The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking to locate a regional probation office in Southport at 11310 Business Center Drive. Many members have expressed grave concerns over the move and the Association has moved to DEMAND a public hearing to allow all area businesses and area residents to have an opportunity to both get the facts and also to get answers to their questions about this plan.
This could mean that hundreds or more convicted felons would be visiting Southport for the regular check-ins with probation officers. Is this good or bad for our area? How many parolees will be coming to the area? What will happen to traffic patterns? Will our property values be affected?
